This is the fence charger I had until a lightning strike which also took out our well. I had it for several years. Now I have a fairly inexpensive one but it works well and works on both AC and DC which is good for Florida. A few years ago we were hit by a hurricane and lost power for a week. I think the predators knew that the wires had been hot so they didn't attempt to broach them.

Now, I have this HiFence and so far it works well. I'm surprised as it didn't cost that much, but had pretty good reviews. I wasn't interested in solar, but if we do loose power for an extended time, I can hook it up to a battery.

This is my outer pen. The white lines around the bottom of chicken wire is hot wire. Most of the time predators investigate with their noses and have 4 feet on the ground so when they touch the wire they get zapped. I have seen places on the back side of my pens where there is evidence of something attempting to dig under the fence but didn't succeed.

I have electric wires around my coops and pens. The predators know they're there. Here are a few links that may help and save your birds from predators.

The coyotes know the electric wires are there.
