I’m so excited to have finally restored my old “Hilltop Farm Forum.” I had thought about bringing it back for quite a while, but every time I tried, I ran into issues. My old PunBB platform just wasn’t working anymore, and attempts to migrate or transfer the data to other platforms didn’t succeed due to compatibility problems, no matter which migration tools I used.
Ultimately, I decided to build the forum from scratch on a new platform and manually transfer the data from a backup I had saved. The process was definitely time-consuming, but it was a labor of love! Along the way, I found some data that was outdated and no longer relevant, so I left that out and only moved over what I felt was still useful and important for the community.
For my old forum platform for the "Hilltop Farm Forum", I used PunBB. For my new platform for
(https://hilltopfarmforum.com), I use phpBB. Even though I tried some other platforms, I couldn't make them work, I finally succeeded in transitioning to phpBB.
For my former website, "Hilltop Farm" which is now "Dunnellon Farm Swap & Farmer's Market", I originally started with Freewebs.com, which later became Web.com, and now I use WordPress,
(https://dunnellonfarmswap.com),
I ran into plenty of challenges while moving both websites to new platforms, but one thing kept me going—the goal of sharing knowledge and experiences, both my own and those of other contributors, here on the forums.
We cover all sorts of topics—from gardening to raising livestock—and I hope that by sharing, we can encourage and help each other along the way.
That’s my ramble—now I encourage you to join in! Please feel free to share your own stories, tips, or anything you’d like. Good luck and have fun!
