Origin: Germany/The Netherlands
Appearance: Penciled or spangled feather patterns; rose comb; blue or slate legs
Egg Color & Productivity: Small white eggs; very good layer
Temperament: Active, alert, can be shy
Special Traits: Excellent foragers; prefer free-range space
Best For: Large runs, show, experienced keepers

Fun Fact: Sometimes called the “Dutch Everyday Layer” for their reputation as steady egg producers.
Did you know? Their lively nature and beauty make them popular for poultry shows across Europe.

Polish Bantam

Origin: Netherlands/Poland
Appearance: Striking crest (“top hat”), clean-legged, many color varieties
Egg Color & Productivity: Small white eggs; fair layer
Temperament: Docile, curious, can be flighty due to crest limiting vision
Special Traits: Ornamental, fun personalities, require dry/cozy environment
Best For: Ornamental/pet flocks

Fun Fact: The large poofy crest on Polish Bantams can sometimes make it hard for them to see!
Did you know? Some say their wild “hairdos” inspired 18th-century European wigs!

Cornish Bantam

Appearance: Very muscular, broad breast, pea comb; available in several colors
Egg Color & Productivity: Small brown eggs; fair layer
Temperament: Calm, hardy, gentle but can be assertive
Special Traits: Used to improve meat qualities in hybrids; show birds too
Best For: Show, backyard, meat projects

Fun Fact: Cornish Bantams’ muscular build gives them a “bulldog” look among chickens.
Did you know? Cornish are the foundation breed for modern commercial broiler (meat) chickens.

Appearance: Black (most common), lustrous green sheen; single comb, plump body
Egg Color & Productivity: Small brown eggs; good layer
Temperament: Calm, gentle, easy to handle
Special Traits: Hardy, great backyard birds
Best For: Families, backyard eggs

Fun Fact: The name "Australorp" comes from "Australian Orpington."
Did you know? Known for their shiny black feathers with a green beetle-like sheen.

Faverolles Bantam

Appearance: Beard, muffs, feathered legs, fifth toe; Salmon color most popular
Egg Color & Productivity: Small, light brown/pinkish eggs; good layer
Temperament: Exceptionally gentle, calm, friendly
Special Traits: Great with children, excellent in mixed flocks
Best For: Families, pets, mixed flocks

Fun Fact: Faverolles bantams (and standard) have five toes instead of the usual four!
Did you know? Their gentle nature makes them favorites for therapy chickens.

Appearance: True bantam; elegant with glossy plumage, main colors are Black, White, Blue; distinct rose comb
Egg Color & Productivity: Small white eggs; poor to fair layer
Temperament: Very active, alert, somewhat flighty but not aggressive
Special Traits: Prized by poultry fanciers for appearance; not broody
Best For: Shows, experienced keepers

Fun Fact:Rosecomb Bantams were developed only for exhibition—they were never bred for eggs or meat!
Did you know? Despite their beauty, they are not known to be broody.
