🥖 Classic Soft Dinner Rolls

Post by Cookie »

Ingredients:

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
2 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 tsp salt
3 cups all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)
1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions:

In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
Add butter and salt, then gradually mix in the flour. Stir until a soft dough forms.
Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic. (Add more flour if sticky.)
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size—about 1 hour.
Punch down the dough. Divide into 12–16 equal pieces and shape into balls. Arrange in a greased baking dish (like in your photo), just touching.
Cover and let rise again until puffy, about 30 minutes.
Brush tops with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
